the city of Cleveland. Founded in 1833, it is an independent,
coeducational institutional with nearly 50 academic major program.
Although Oberlin is an entirely undergraduate institution, it boasts
high-caliber facilities one would expect at larger university - a
$65 million science complex, a revolutionary environmental studies
center, one of the strongest art museums at the nation, and an
exhaustive library system.
Oberlin is also home to a premier music conservatory that produced
world-class musicians since 1863. The presence of the Conservatory,
as well as stellar art, theatre, and dance program in the College
have earned Oberlin a reputation as a haven for creative _expression
and encouragements of the arts. The environment that results from
the symbiotic co-existence of a top-tier liberal arts college and
preeminent music conservatory is unique to Oberlin.
International students at Oberlin come from fifty countries and have
access to all programs available to American students, including
campus employment. They are enrolled in a broad range of majors, and
are employed in myriad occupations across the globe upon graduation.
The college`s location is a small town in the American Midwest is
tempered by a high proportion of students from cities of the east
and west coasts, and it has a higher representation of ethic
diversity than many other similar colleges. As a result, Oberlin is
a sophisticated and cosmopolitan community, a genuine microcosm of
the United States itself, in a safe and secure setting - an ideal
environment for learning.
Oberlin welcomes application from international students as either
first-year or as transfer applicants. The application deadline for
first-year Regular Decision is 15 January, and for transfer students
is 15 March. It is wise to submit one`s application as early as
possible, however, to ensure a timely evaluation.
All international students must complete a Common Application and
the appropriate Oberlin College International Student Supplement
Form. International students must submit SAT I or ACT results.
Oberlin does not require SAT II Subject Test but will gladly
consider results should one choose to submit them. Fluency in
English is vital to one`s ability to make the most of an Oberlin
education. Consequently, applicants for whom English is not a
first language or language in which their secondary education has
been conducted must submit results of the Test of English as a
Foreign Language (TOEFL) or other widely recognized tests (IELTS,
Cambridge, MELAB).
Oberlin is one of the few American colleges and universities
privileged to offer financial aid to international students and
pledges to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted
students - including transfers. To apply for financial aid,
international students must submit the International Student
Financial Aid Application. Due to United States immigration
regulations, all international students must submit an International
Student Certification of Finances form. Both documents are available
on Oberlin`s website.
